ABSTRACT

THE IMPACT OF INVESTMENT IN EMERGING MARKETS ON PORTFOLIO GROWTH

This research explores the impact of investment in emerging markets on portfolio growth, focusing on: (1) the benefits of investing in emerging markets for portfolio diversification; (2) the strategies for successful investment in emerging markets; (3) the challenges in emerging market investments. A survey design is used to gather quantitative data. Taro Yamane's formula is applied to derive a sample size of 310 respondents from Lagos, representing investors with exposure to emerging markets. An international investment firm is selected as the case study due to its extensive experience in emerging markets. The reliability coefficient score for the survey instrument is 0.87. Findings indicate that investment in emerging markets offers significant growth potential and diversification benefits, despite higher risks. Techniques such as thorough market research, risk assessment, and local partnerships are highlighted. It is recommended that investors consider emerging markets as part of their diversified portfolios, conduct detailed research, and employ risk management strategies to mitigate potential challenges.
